It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Denny Hale, one of the founding forces behind the Lake Garnett Grand Prix Revival.

This news comes at a particularly difficult time, as we just opened registration for the 13th annal Revival. It serves as a reminder that while the Revival continues to grow and evolve, it is built on the dedication, generosity, and vision of people like Denny.
In the earliest days, when the Lake Garnett Grand Prix Revival was little more than an idea, Denny stepped forward and helped turn that vision into reality. He generously provided the seed money that allowed the event to get off the ground. More than that, he committed his time and energy to making sure it succeeded.
Denny took on the responsibility of managing registration during those early years, building detailed spreadsheets and systems that helped keep everything organized and running smoothly. His thoughtful, methodical approach laid the groundwork for processes that continue to support the event today.
That was Denny. Thoughtful. Precise. Always willing to do the work.
Beyond his role in the Revival, Denny was a familiar and respected figure in the local automotive community. As an active member of the Kansas City MG Car Club, he shared his passion for British cars with countless others. His 1968 MGB, finished in British Racing Green, was a regular sight at shows, cruises, and, of course, at Lake Garnett.
He loved taking that car out for what he often called a “spirited run,” and he especially enjoyed being part of the Revival not just behind the wheel, but as someone who helped create the experience for others. Whether it was participating in track sessions or giving rides, Denny took great pride in sharing his love of cars with the people around him.
For many who attend the Lake Garnett Grand Prix Revival each year, Denny’s contributions may not have been visible. But his impact has been felt by everyone who has participated in the event. The structure, organization, and spirit of the Revival all carry his influence.
We are deeply grateful for everything Denny gave to this event and to the community that surrounds it.
We invite anyone who knew Denny, whether through the Revival, the Kansas City MG Car Club, or elsewhere, to take a moment to reflect on his life and the many ways he brought people together. If you have a memory, a story, or a photo, we encourage you to share it with others.
